"Sinus Infections"
FOR AIR WEEK OF January 24, 2005
It’s called “sinusitis” – You may know it as a “sinus infection”. But how common is it in children?
Hi, I’m Dr. John Hellerstedt with the Children’s Health Minute, presented by this station and TexCare--connecting families with children’s health insurance for 25-dollars a month or less.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the common cold apart from a sinus infection. Many children with colds have a cough, sore throat or runny nose. Colds are caused by viruses, and don’t normally require a doctor’s treatment.
Symptoms of a sinus infection include a runny nose that lasts more than 10 to 14 days and the condition seems to be getting worse. There may be a high fever. It can be a challenge to diagnose sinus infection correctly, but if your child truly appears ill, it’s always a good idea to call the doctor.
