CHILDREN’S
HEALTH MINUTE Presented

"Winter Safety”
FOR AIR WEEK OF February 10, 2003
Spending lots of time indoors in
winter can have its own set of dangers.
Hi, I’m Dr. John Hellerstedt with
the Children’s Health Minute presented by this station
and TexCare -- connecting
Texas families with children’s health insurance for 18
dollars a month or less.
Never allow children to play near
a burning fireplace and never leave it unattended. If
you use space heaters
to stay
warm, make sure your children are supervised at all
times, and keep the heaters away from curtains,
drapes and furniture.
Gas heaters, if not working properly, can emit carbon
monoxide -- an invisible, odorless and very deadly gas.
Protect your
whole family by having your gas heater checked annually
by a certified technician, and by installing a carbon
monoxide detector in your home.
Keep your kids healthy.
Call TexCare at 1-800-647-6558 to
apply or when it’s time to renew
your children’s health care coverage.
