Cardiovascular
disease is the number one killer
in the US, but you can help protect
your baby now.
Hi, I’m Dr. John Hellerstedt and
this Children’s Health Minute is
presented by TexCare Partnership
-- connecting Texas families with
children’s health insurance for 18
dollars a month or less.
A new British study finds babies
who gain weight too fast in the first
years of life can become obese later
in life, putting them at risk for
early heart disease. Babies who had
gained the most weight during the
first four months of life were more
likely to become obese as adults
and develop high blood pressure,
major risk factors for heart disease.
To avoid this problem, the American
Academy of Pediatrics recommends
introducing solid foods slowly at
the beginning of a meal, and then,
just one or two teaspoons. Parents
should also take their children to
the pediatrician regularly to have
their weight and height checked.
This is Dr. John Hellerstedt, reminding
you that no child should be without
health insurance Call TexCare Partnership
at 1-800-647-6558 to apply.
And join me next time for The Children’s
Health Minute. |
