"Rear-Facing
Infant Safety Seats”
FOR AIR WEEK OF May 13, 2002
Without a doubt,
the best way for an infant to ride in
the car is in a rear-facing child safety
seat.
Hi, I'm Dr. John
Hellerstedt with the Children's Health
Minute, presented by this station
and TexCare - connecting Texas families
with children's health insurance for
18 dollars a month or less.
It's never safe to
hold a baby in your lap while your
traveling in a car, always use a child
safety seat. Babies should be placed
in a rear-facing child safety seat
until they are a year old and weigh
20 to 22 pounds.
The top of the baby's
head should rest at least two inches
below the top of the seat. And never
place a rear-facing child safety seat
in the front seat, where it could
be struck by a passenger-side air
bag.
One more thing: As
a parent, set a good example - always
buckle up your seat belt, too.
