"Fat content of fast foods”
FOR AIR WEEK OF May 27, 2002

It may be tempting to super-size your fast-food meals. But getting larger portions for your child, may be hazardous to their health.

Hi, I'm Dr. John Hellerstedt with the Children's Health Minute, presented by this station and TexCare - connecting Texas families with children's health insurance for 18 dollars a month or less.

Fast food in moderation may not cause your child to become overweight, but it's still important to consider downsizing portions.

For example: Choosing the regular size fries instead of the super-large size saves hundreds of uneeded calories. And , mega cups of soda that hold twenty to thirty ounces pack a whopping four hundred calories!

A growing number of children - and adults - are becoming overweight. Experts say one of the main reasons is that Americans are eating far more than the recommended serving sizes. When they ask you if you want the biggest size they have, just say "no."

Keep your kids healthy. Call TexCare at 1-800-647-6558 to apply or when it's time to renew your children's health care coverage. That's 1-800-647-6558.
