"Summertime
Safety”
FOR AIR WEEK
OF June 20, 2005
Kids love the
summertime, but did you know it's also
the most dangerous time of the year
for children?
Hi, I’m Dr. John
Hellerstedt with the Children’s
Health Minute, presented by this
station and TexCare-- connecting
families with CHIP and Children’s
Medicaid.
Accidental injury
is the number one reason children die.
And according to the National SAFE
KIDS campaign, nearly half of all
injury-related childhood deaths occur
during the summer months.
The good news is,
there are ways to make your child's
summer a safer one. Always keep an eye
on kids in or near the water; drowning
is the greatest risk for children 14
and younger. Children must wear a
helmet when riding a bicycle, scooter
or skateboard. And make sure they're
secured in a seat belt or a child
safety seat when riding in the car.
Be safe and have a
great summer!
