Children and
fireworksits an explosive
and dangerous combination that can have
tragic results
Hi, Im Dr. John Hellerstedt with
the Childrens Health Minute presented
by this station and TexCareconnecting
Texas families with childrens
health insurance for 18 dollars a month
or less.
Last year there were 16 deaths and 8,500
injures caused by consumer fireworks.
Nearly half of all injuries occurred
in children under 15 years old. Fireworks
can cause eye damage, blindness, severe
burns and scars that can last a lifetime.
Even things like sparklers that dont
go bang, can hurt users
because they burn hotter than 1,000
degrees.
The best way to keep your kids safe
on Independence Day is not to use fireworks
at all. Instead enjoy fireworks at a
public display, conducted by professionals.
Keep
your kids healthy. Call TexCare at
1-800-647-6558 to apply or when it's
time to renew your children's health
care coverage.
That's 1-800-647-6558."
