HEALTH MINUTE

"Proper Fitting Shoes”
FOR AIR WEEK OF August 19, 2002
There’s nothing
cool about a shoe that doesn’t fit.
Remind your kids of this fact when you
shop for back-to-school shoes this fall.
Hi, I’m Dr. John
Hellerstedt with the children’s health
minute presented by this station and
Texcare-connecting Texas families
with children’s health insurance for
18 dollars a month or less.
Shoes that don’t fit right can lead
to foot and ankle problems now and
when your children grow up. Blisters,
bunions, and painful feet are just
some of the problems caused by shoes
that don’t fit.
Here are some tips when you’re shopping
for shoes: Shop later in the day,
when feet are slightly larger than
in the morning. Allow about half an
inch of room between the longest toe
and the end of the shoe. And have
your child wear the same socks they
will wear with the shoes.
And, as we all know, kid’s feet are
always growing, so check their shoes
often to be sure they still fit.
Keep your kids
healthy. Call Texcare at 1-800-647-6558
to apply or when it’s time to renew
your children’s health care coverage.
That’s 1-800-647-6558.
