"Overweight kids”
FOR AIR WEEK OF August 29, 2005
Overweight kids
often have low self-esteem, get teased
by other kids, and may even face
potential health problems later in
life.
Hi, I’m Dr. John
Hellerstedt with the Children’s
Health Minute, presented by this
station and TexCare-- connecting
families with CHIP and Children’s
Medicaid.
Research shows that
obesity in children is on the rise.
Talk to your
child’s doctor about whether your
child is at a healthy weight for his
or her age. If not, your doctor can
advise you about modifying your
child’s eating habits and physical
activity.
Obesity may
continue into adulthood. That can put
children at risk for future health
problems such as diabetes and heart
disease.
Keep your kids
healthy. Call toll-free 1-877-KIDS NOW
for information or when it’s time to
renew your children’s health
insurance. That’s 1-877-KIDS NOW.
