CHILDREN’S
HEALTH MINUTE
Presented
by the TexCare
60 Second Radio Feature MP3
"Eye Health"
FOR AIR WEEK OF September 9, 2002
A child’s
eyes are a window to the future. Keep
that future bright by having your child’s
eyes checked regularly.
Hi, I’m Dr. John
Hellerstedt with the children’s health
minute presented by this station and
TexCare—connecting Texas families
with children’s health insurance for
18 dollars a month or less.
The doctor should
examine your baby’s eyes at birth
and again during the first year. At
about 3 & 1/2 and 5 years old,
repeat eye exams and vision checks
are due. After the age of 5, routine
vision checks should be done at school
or the doctor’s office.
Squinting,
chronically red or teary eyes, trouble
seeing things far away or sitting
too close to the TV are signs that
your child may have a vision problem.
Early detection and treatment of eye
problems are essential to your child’s
vision health.
Keep your kids healthy. Call TexCare
