"Talking To Kids About Drugs"
FOR AIR WEEK OF November 11 , 2002
Kids and drugs-a subject all parents fear and, too often, are afraid to talk about with their children.
Hi, I'm Dr. John Hellerstedt with the children's health minute presented by this station and TexCare-connecting Texas families with children's health insurance for 18 dollars a month or less.
According to a recent study, 36 percent of teens say their parents never talked to them about drugs.
Children need to hear the accurate facts about drugs from parents especially before they encounter them. Start talking to your children when they enter grade school. As they get older, get more specific with the facts.
Stories in the news about drugs can be a great way to start a discussion. And most of all, listen to your children. Open lines of communication are the first and most important step to preventing drug use.
Keep your kids healthy. Call TexCare at 1-800-647-6558 to apply or when it's time to renew your children's health care coverage. That's 1-800-647-6558.
