"Antibiotic Resistance"
FOR AIR WEEK OF December 2 , 2002
Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacterial germs are no longer killed by antibiotic medicines. The problem is big, and getting worse.
Hi, I'm Dr. John Hellerstedt with the Children's Health Minute presented by this station and TexCare-connecting Texas families with children's health insurance for 18 dollars a month or less.
Antibiotics fight infections caused by bacteria. Overuse and misuse of antibiotics contribute to the growing problem of antibiotic resistant bacterial germs.
If the bacteria keep outsmarting the medicines we have, we may run out of ways to fight the infections they cause.
Your doctor will know whether to use antibiotics. Following your doctor's instructions carefully will help lessen the problem of antibiotic resistant germs.
