"Childhood headaches"
FOR AIR WEEK OF December 23, 2002

If you think that only adults get headaches, think again.

Hi, I'm Dr. John Hellerstedt with the Children's Health Minute presented by this station and TexCare-connecting Texas families with children's health insurance for 18 dollars a month or less.

Children suffer from the same types of headaches that plague adults. Colds, flu and sinus infections can commonly cause headaches in children, as can staying up too late and not drinking enough water.

Most simple headaches will pass. Home remedies include having the child lie down in a cool, dark room and giving an over-the-counter pain reliever.

There are some warning signs that could mean your child's headache is more serious. These include weakness, nausea and visual changes. If your child has any of these symptoms or is awoken from sleep by a severe headache, call your doctor without delay.

Keep your kids healthy. Call TexCare at 1-800-647-6558 to apply or when it's time to renew your children's health care coverage. That's 1-800-647-6558.
