"Bedwetting"
FOR AIR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 11, 2002
Every
night across America, 5 to 7 million
children are turning off the lights,
going to sleep, and wetting the bed.
Hi,
I’m Dr. John Hellerstedt and this
CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented by TexCare – connecting
Texas families with children’s health
insurance for 18 dollars a month or
less.
No
one knows exactly why children wet
the bed. Many are very deep sleepers,
who don’t wake up when their bladder
is full.
Often, someone else in the
family remembers outgrowing the same
problem.
Doctors
stress that children who wet should
not be punished. Most often the problem
resolves on its own, often at the
same age that it did for another family
member.
Possible
treatments include medication, bladder
exercises or the use of a buzzer alarm.
Discuss
the problem with your child’s doctor.
Your patience and support are
key to helping your child overcome
bedwetting.
This
is Dr. John Hellerstedt, reminding
you that no child should be without
health insurance.
