"Fire Safety-
Every Family Needs a Plan"
For the Week of April 8, 2002
If a fire broke
out in your home, would you and your
family be able to escape safely?
Hi,
I'm Dr. John Hellerstedt with the
Children's Health Minute, presented
by this station and TexCare
- connecting Texas families with children's
health insurance for 18 dollars a
month or less.
Approximately
four thousand people die each year
from house fires and sadly many of
those could have been prevented if
the family had developed a fire escape
plan. To develop a plan, make sure
there are two ways out of each room
so if one way is blocked by the fire,
you can get out the other way. Then
pick a safe and easy-to-remember place
outside your home to meet after you
get out. Install smoke alarms on every
level of the house, especially in
bedrooms.
Getting
out fast is the key to survival so
families should practice the plan
of escape at least twice a year.
