60 Second Radio Feature MP3
“Mumps”
FOR AIR WEEK OF MAY 14, 2001
What do you know
about the mumps?
Hi, I’m Dr. John Hellerstedt and this
CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented
by the TexCare .
Mumps is a disease caused by a virus.
Mumps usually starts with fever and
headache and is often followed with
painful swallowing, talking, or chewing.
It can infect many parts of the body,
but most parents notice the swollen
glands on the cheeks, the salivary glands.
If you think your child has mumps call
your doctor for advice.
Avoid using aspirin to treat the fever
unless directly instructed to do so
by your doctor.
Soothe your child’s swollen salivary
glands with warm or cold packs.
Have your child drink lots of fluids
and serve them foods that do not make
the swollen glands hurt more such as
citrus fruits or juices.
This CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented
by the TexCare —reminding
you that no child should be without
health insurance. Call 1-800-647-6558
to apply for children’s health insurance
that for most families is $18 a month
or less.
And join me next time for The CHILDREN’S
HEALTH MINUTE. |
