CHILDREN’S
HEALTH MINUTE
Presented by

60 Second Radio Feature MP3
“Tick Removal”
FOR AIR WEEK OF JUNE 4, 2001
If a tick turns
up on your child, take steps to remove
it as soon as possible.
Hi, I’m Dr. John Hellerstedt and this
CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented
by the TexCare .
Some serious infections can be spread
by infected ticks, but fortunately these
are not common.
Although your child’s chances of infection
are very low, the risk increases the
longer the tick is attached. After
camping or playing in the woods, be
sure to carefully inspect all skin surfaces,
including the groin.
To remove a tick:
Use tweezers to grasp the tick firmly
at its head or mouth, right next to
your child’s skin.
Gently but firmly pull steadily on the
tick until it lets go of the skin.
Carefully wash the bite with soap and
water.
This CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented
by the TexCare —reminding
you that no child should be without
health insurance. Call 1-800-647-6558
to apply for children’s health insurance
that for most families is $18 a month
or less.
And join me next time for The CHILDREN’S
HEALTH MINUTE. |
