"Head Lice"
FOR AIR WEEK OF June 11, 2001
If
your child constantly scratches the
scalp or complains that it itches,
head lice may be to blame.
Hi, I am Dr. John
Hellerstedt and this Children's Health
Minute is presented by the TexCare
.
Lice
are tiny parasites that cause recurrent
itching and scratching on areas of
the body that are covered with hair.
Your
doctor can make the diagnosis of lice
infestation by examining your child.
He or she will recommend a shampoo,
cream, or lotion to kill the lice
as well as a process for combing out
the lice eggs or nits.
Remember--
head lice are contagious. Keep your
child out of school and day care until
the active infestation has cleared.
Children should also be discouraged
from sharing combs, brushes, hats,
or bedding.
This
CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented
