HEALTH MINUTE
Presented by

"Taking
Your Child's Temperature"
FOR AIR WEEK OF JULY 23, 2001
Sooner or later,
every parent will need to check their
child’s temperature.
Hi, I’m Dr. John
Hellerstedt and this CHILDREN’S HEALTH
MINUTE is presented by TexCare
– connecting Texas families with children’s
health insurance for 18 dollars a
month or less.
Before using a glass
mercury thermometer, wash the tip
of the thermometer in cool, soapy
water or rubbing alcohol and shake
it down until it reads below 96 degrees.
Use the oral route
for children old enough to hold the
thermometer under their tongue for
several minutes. For babies and toddlers,
a rectal thermometer is the most accurate.
It is important to
know how to respond to a fever before
it occurs. Next time you visit
your child’s doctor, ask them when
to treat a fever, and when to call
their office.
This CHILDREN’S HEALTH
MINUTE is presented by TexCare —reminding
you that no child should be without
health insurance. Call 1-800-647-6558
to apply.
And join me next
time for The CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE.
