"Treating Burns"
FOR AIR WEEK OF JULY 30, 2001
Knowing how to
treat your child’s burns can be critical.
Hi,
I’m Dr. John Hellerstedt and this
CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented by TexCare – connecting
Texas families with children’s health
insurance for 18 dollars a month or
less.
Burns
are labeled as first, second or third
degree based on the severity of damage
to the skin.
For
first- and small second-degree burns,
run cool water over it or hold a clean,
cold compress on it. If the burn is
small, loosely cover it with a sterile
bandage.
For
a large second, and all third degree
burns, call your doctor immediately.
Do not break any blisters.
For
all burns to the eyes, mouth, hands
and genital areas call your child’s
doctor immediately, even if they’re
mild.
This
CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented
by TexCare —reminding you
that no child should be without health
insurance. Call 1-800-647-6558 to
apply.
And
join me next time for The CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE.
