“Pet Safety”
FOR AIR THE WEEK OF August 13, 2001
Animals that your
child sees in the park or in the woods,
can be dangerous as pets.
Hi, I’m Dr. John
Hellerstedt and this CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented by TexCare – connecting
Texas families with children’s health
insurance for 18 dollars a month or
less.
Teach children never
to feed, touch or bring home a wild
animal.
Not all animals in
the pet store are safe for kids either.
Unsafe animals include:
hedgehogs, ferrets, monkeys and reptiles
such as snakes and lizards. Reptiles
may transmit salmonella through their
feces, a kind of bacteria which could
be especially dangerous for infants.
Animal experts recommend
that household pets be limited to
traditional, domesticated animals
such as cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea
pigs, birds and fish.
This CHILDREN’S HEALTH
MINUTE is presented by TexCare —reminding
you that no child should be without
health insurance. Call 1-800-647-6558
to apply.
And join me next
time for The CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE.
