"Allergy
Shots and Your Child”
FOR AIR WEEK OF November 12, 2001
If your child
has allergies, their doctor may recommend
allergy shots/
Hi, I’m Dr. John Hellerstedt and this
CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented
by the TexCare .
When contact with a certain substance
triggers a special type of reaction
in the body's immune system. this is
called an allergic reaction.
When the trigger is something in the
air, the typical symptoms include runny
nose, sneezing, and itchy-watering eyes.
The best prevention is to avoid exposure
to the substance that triggers the allergy
symptoms. Sometimes your doctor may
recommend medication, but if these measures
don't seem to work, your doctor might
refer your child to an allergist.
The goal is to build a type of immunity
that can block another allergic response..
But remember: allergy vaccinations are
not for everyone.
This CHILDREN’S HEALTH MINUTE is presented
by the TexCare —reminding
you that no child should be without
health insurance. Call 1-800-647-6558
to apply for children’s health insurance
that for most families is $18 a month
or less.
