NEW TEXAS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CAMPAIGN

 Domestic violence is a growing problem. Nearly three out of every four Texans is either in an abusive situation or knows someone who is.

 That’s why Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott joined leaders from the Texas Council on Family Violence to launch a new campaign to educate the friends and families of the victims of domestic violence. 

 The second phase of the successful “Break the Silence - Make the Call” campaign targets those who know a friend or relative who is in an abusive situation. The reason:  Research shows that 35 % of Texans with domestic violence in their families do nothing to get help.

 The campaign will feature new TV and radio spots and wide distribution of printed materials --- all promoting the phone number 1-800-799-SAFE, a hotline that provides information about available programs and services. The campaign was first launched in 2002 with the aid of a $2-million grant from the office of the Texas Attorney General.
